A Magic Time Machine-- (so much magic in one day!)

Well-- I found magic last night!!--A time machine to bring me backwards! Ages 10-12ish, living in New Jersey, best friends were Lauren, Stephanie and Joy, small private school, penny loaffer shoes, big bangs.... wow-- and I was IN LOVE with New Kids On The Block!! That's right Jon Knight was the man I had given my heart to, his posters plastered everywhere!

When I heard they were getting back together as a band and going to be on the TODAY Show to announce it-- I literally was GIDDY in my office last May (I may have even blogged possibly about it). Several months later as they added on to their tour, Denver, CO appeared and I just couldn't help myself. I'm embarrassed to say what I spent on 2 tickets, so I'll leave that out. I had no idea who would come with me-- but I wasn't going alone--

And LAST NIGHT I was able to be brough back to that "tween" place-- writing "I Love Jon" on my face and all-- there I was, as a mom with my daughter in tow, 11 years old and screaming right along with all the mid 20- 30 something women in the room!! You honestly have never heard so much screaming in your whole entire life! I think Kaileigh had a GREAT GREAT time-- earplugs and all-- until the end. It was such a long show she just couldn't hang on any longer- but I bet we only missed 1-2 songs-- and we also missed all the traffic!

We got there plenty early, bought some souveniers of course (the time machine had not started working quite yet-- or I was able to bring $$ with me! lol) She proudly wore a BIG button of Jon because that's who I love (although, like I predicted, Joey MacIntyre is now her favorite!) and we took in all of the old memorabilia people were wearing-- hats, suspenders, old t-shirts, buttons, glitter everywhere-- it was so fun! TONS AND TONS of "girls night out" groups as you can imagine, but more men than I expected.

Kaileigh wore her Hannah Montana sweat suit and some guys in line for the hot dog she needed to have commented on it and started singing songs with her right there (I believe they were there together...without women if you know what I mean :) ) and they were so nice, entertaining her and getting her all excited about how much fun the show would be. Then we went to our seats, on the floor but not where I thought they were when I bought them, and where we met the other girls we'd hang with for the evening. They like me couldn't find their old T-shirts, so they had made shirts with NKOTB on the front and Mrs. ______ (enter last name of their favorite New Kid) on the back. They were really fun. Even brought the DOLLS! I missed out....my barbies never had a Joey, Jordan or Jonathon doll-- however they were younger than me-- I wasn't really playing Barbie too much anymore when I was into NKOTB. Anyway- it was fun and they let us borrow the Jon doll for a picture :)

Then this weird chic sang-- I don't even know her name- Lady Nana or something?? I don't know- Kaileigh liked the beat of her music and we danced some but she thought she had weird hair. After whoever she was, we saw Natasha Bedingfield who we love (and really made buying the tickets, in the moments I was 2nd guessing that decision, a little more justified). She sang some great songs, of course including our 2 favorites "Pocket Full of Sunshine" and "Unwritten" which Kaileigh also knows all the words too. She was really great and I was very glad she was there. "Unwritten was last" and I think it's the last time there wasn't constant screaming and you could hear a room FULL of women all singing together! Pretty cool!

And of course-- then there was a break as the stage was set for NKOTB! They came up out of the floor, the light show was amazing, we could see everything just fine (well Kai was standing on a chair) and it was great-- I was actually shocked! I have a girlfriend, who was going to come with me until I had Kaileigh for the weekend, who had seen them in Detroit. She told me it was the most amazing concert she'd ever been to-- and I'm going to have to agree. Kelly of course told me there was no way he was coming- it would be worse than the Rascal Flatts concert he endured with me for my birthday a few years ago in the rain (and he's right- he would have been miserable) but WOW. They can still DANCE! ok- go ahead and laugh-- their dancing is funny-- but they are upper 30's early 40's--- It's amazing they can do this!! The singing was great- the mixed new songs of course with old favorites which each time got the crowd screaming MORE- it never really died down- just got louder and less loud--

And the best part of the WHOLE evening-- they came out in the middle of the floor on a stage that rotated-- RIGHT NEXT TO US!!! We were probably 5 back in a crowd of women- I found Kai another chair to stand on and if she hadn't been with me I think I could have touched them-- I would have gotten up closer, but you know- I had to NOT be 12 at some points to keep Kaileigh safe from the crazy women! Donnie took some girls camera, took pictures of her in the crowd, then of himself and gave it back, and they were SOOO close.... that's when the panties and bras started to fly up on stage...Kaileigh wasn't quite sure why that was happening- and I told her girls were weird.... but man-- I might have fainted had I not had her with me :) lol

Anyway- I could go on and on- my poor blackberry must be full b/c- of course I followed the rules not wanting my camera to get confiscated (they didn't even check my purse BOO! :( ) so when they were so close my camera wasn't working. The nice pregnant friend next to us had hers, so hopefully she won't lose my email and will share her pictures!

It was a great night and I was really glad I brought Kaileigh-- how fun for the 2 of us to do together! She's a 2nd Generation NKOTB fan!!

Memories in Kaileigh's words:

There were these tall girls standing on chairs and they were in our way so I had to move over.

Me: Mommy wants to marry Jon!

Kai: *gasp* You can do that! You have Kelly!

Me: Well if I could marry Jon Knight- bye bye Kelly!

Kai: What!!! You can't do that!!

(She's right-- I think he's already married)

Me: -sighing over pictures of Jon...

Kai: Mo-om... give me that. It's going in MY room. When Kelly & I are gone you can do that!

Me: Kai, what did you think of last night?

Kai: I love the New Kids On The Block!

Me: YES!! :)

wow. you were in love with new kids on the block back then too? Why was it that everyone was so completely crazy over them? why did they reunite? oh to relive the horrors of the 80s/early 90s again now. haha just kidding. I always despised them. Anyway I am glad you had a great time and felt like a tween all over again. It is very interesting how EVERYONE from calvary is coming round now. It's nice though too and helps keep me feeling young with pigtails and all.
