1st Camping Trip of the year

Kelly & I met up with some friends about 4 hrs outside of Denver this past weekend to camp out in the middle of nowhere. We were surrounded by this great creek and since we had so much moisture so late this year, the water's really running strong! We pitched our tent nearby so the water would lull us to sleep.

This little doe kept coming over in the meadow by our camp and was eating peanuts. However, it wouldn't take them from my hand....I tried. She was so skittish though-- I guess I am pretty scary looking!
I love the campfires, and thanks to 2 guitar playing friends we were able to do some singing too! It was chilly but the fire felt nice....ahhh..... There were about 15 of us, and I learned how to make Hobo Pie! Yummy! I like the smores kind on bread better than smores with graham crackers! The crackers make too much mess! And...if you put the Reeces Peanut Butter Cups in the middle....MMMMmmmmm!!
Saturday morning after a delicious breakfast of eggs and grilled toast, we loaded up the vehicles (Jeeps & ATV's) and headed out onto one of the ROCKIEST trails we've ever driven.... *bump bump bump bump bump....* Beautiful view though and where we stopped started a hike up past 12K feet to an old mine. I have to tell you, I don't think I'm in that bad of shape with my Taebo and all (I mean there is room for improvement but....) yet 1/2 way through, I was in the back! My legs were fine, I just felt like my chest was going to explode. The air is so thin... I'm just going to fall back on that I'm not a native Coloradan! It was worth the climb though (Oohh! I should break out into Miley Cyrus...hahaha) because the view from the top was amazing! And going back down is always easy :)
On the way down, we found the spine & part of a jawbone of an Elk which I proudly carried back down, teeth and all, along with some rocks I'd collected along the way for Kaileigh! She will be so impressed hahaha :)
Although it started raining right as we got back to camp, we'd had a great day and it was good timing for a nap in the tent... Well, not really a nap- Amy & I read magazines all tucked into sleeping bags to keep warm. In between some rain we got in a game of Frisbee Golf- Frolf- which I'm really not very good at! But it's fun!! When it started raining again, Mike & Kelly got dinner of steaks etc ready and then it was another campfire evening!
I just love the outdoors!!
