1st Jeeping Trip of the Year

Kelly and I had the opportunity, in our recently fabulous weather, to take the Jeep out for the first time in '09 this past weekend. I can't tell you how GREAT it felt to get back out in nature without the cold! We headed Southwest of home and drove through the Hayman fire area

(The Hayman fire was one of Colorado's largest wildfires ever. It started illegally from a campfire in the Pike National Forest at a point less than 60 miles south and west of Denver. The fire was reported on June 8, 2002 but was not officially contained until July 2, 2002.)

It was so sad to see these trees, just burnt sticks standing, some laying, all over. Kelly and I were trying to imagine what this must have looked like before as we drove through the destruction.

We went out with some neighbor-friends Cheri & Brian who lead the way (and therefore their Jeep is in most of my pictures!) It's always more fun to go with others, and we were able to stop and have a nice picnic lunch part way through. I've got some pictures to share, but remember, Kelly doesn't STOP for me to take pictures so they're not all clear :)

I'm so glad this season is upon us and can't wait to continue the fun throughout the next 4 months! We are excited for Kaileigh to join us for some REAL trail rides this summer too now that she is a little older. We'll see how that goes, but we were mapping out some great camping spots along the way too!

Yay for summer & yay for the Colorado National Forest areas!
