Poooor Honey....
Not only did Willie pee on her back today when she was trying to potty, but she can't walk tonight. She did seem to really be enjoying our hike today, but I think it was way too much for her! We were out for about 3 hours hiking Threemile Trail in Grant, CO (moderate & beautiful hike for a family!!) and tonight she can barely move :( I guess a clear clue should have been when we stopped to eat some lunch on a rock in the shade (a great chosen spot by Miss Kai)
instead of just laying down to rest she toppled over-- like blocks when you build them up and then just push them to the ground. Poor girl. She was really hanging in there awesome too. We had to cross several foot bridges over the river we were winding around. Willie, who is petrified of water, did not enjoy this at all and once knocked into her sending her back let between two of the boards :( I love taking them out, getting them into nature and enjoying some excercise, but I think today we pushed Honey too far.
The vet says she doesn't need anymore than some glucosomine at the moment, but unfortunately I predict some hip displasia problems for her in the (near?) future. She such a loving dog and has really learned how to interact with our family, learned to play...it's sad to think what her life leading up to us was like for her to not even know how to play :(
On a happier note, Kaileigh and I did have a great time! We collected beautiful flowers to fill our egg carton, colored different colors in which we had to fill with something we found in that color family. I meant to take a picture of our finds, but I think in all the fuss getting the dogs some water and into the car we left it on the side of the road :( whoops! Walking through one of the fields surrounded by 3 moutain peaks Kaileigh said- "Mom- this is just beautiful! We have the most best day to be on a hike" What a great time!!
And the weather was perfect. Although 80's in town at home it was about 70 where we were hiking and shaded most of the way (although I still managed to get some sunburn! Ugh!!) I found this hike on Fun Colorado Hikes .com. I really love that site- it gives me ideas AND DIRECTIONS! on where to go and what to expect once I get there...and besides the gas to get there it's all free! Yay! Even better! Right price, right activity level, right company-- perfect! We didn't see much wildlife, but really- with a 6 1/2 year old and 2 dogs could we expect to?!?
With a stop-off at Coney Island in Bailey on the way home, it was a fun ending to a fun day! I look forward to doing it again soon-- but next time maybe we'll trade out the dogs for our fishing poles!
