The 8th American Girl doll store opened right in our backyard on March 27th. The wait to get into the store was between 6-8 hrs that weekend. We did not get in, or wait at all, that weekend. Although we were both disappointed, Kaileigh and I decided that was ridiculous when we could come any time. So, off to TX we went for Easter having not experienced the new store.
However, in the car accident, Kai’s doll Kit (which she had waited and begged for for a year and then received for Christmas 2008) was drenched as well as Kaileigh in the mucky water. We believe if she makes it, it will only be with the help of the American Girl Hospital (which would cost almost as much as buying a new doll). So, the agreement we made was that we’d go to the store and if Kai wanted to replace Kit with Lanie, the 2010 girl of the year that she has now been asking for as well, she could. After much debate- and sadness over Kit- we decided we’d go to the store with the option to save up money and send Kit to the hospital, buying Lanie in the meantime.
Yesterday after work, we excitedly took off for the mall. We parked, we skipped towards the entrance and we entered the store in amazement. It’s their smallest store, but since we have only the catalog as a frame of reference we were excited to see everything “live”. All the dolls are displayed and we had a great time walking through checking it all out. We watched some dolls getting their hair done in the salon, looked through some of the books they have and checked out the bitty babies.
After standing in front of Kit for a while, which brought tears to Kai’s eyes, we walked over to Lanie and took a look at what she is all about. Lanie is into nature and the outdoors, loves animals and wants to help better the earth. These are all things Kaileigh’s young spirit is passionate about as well. So after a few back and forth conversations, Kaileigh decided to go ahead and purchase Lanie. She had in her hands $22 which she proudly handed over at the register because she “didn’t want Mommy to spend too much money on her”. *Breaks your heart I tell ya! I’m so proud of her!*
From the store we went to church for Kaileigh’s Awana’s Award night with Lanie proudly wearing her Awana vest as well. Many little girls came over to our table to look at Kaileigh’s doll asking her if that was Lanie. She very proudly told people that she just got her and that Kit had been in the car accident with her on Monday so she needed to be replaced. It was cute and although Kelly and her dad think these are ridiculous for the price, we love these plastic dolls J
Oh- and warning- if you’re a girl, into all the accessories and dressing like your doll- you could absolutely go broke in that store! Wow- their stuff is so cute! And just like if I had 2 little girls that I’d dress alike, it would be fun to dress Kai and her doll alike as well…so Mommy’s beware…it’s not just your little girls who will want to purchase things in the store!
