Well, this Fall 2009 season, we played on a new team, had some interference with weather (but were easily able to make up each game) and played in polar opposite temperatures. Many games were in the mid-60s. Then we'd have games that your nose might freeze right off, and games where the girls couldn't get enough water! Such is Denver weather as I've posted before.
Kaileigh made quite a bit of improvements: learning a defensive position and how to follow the ball rather than believing that's not an important position since she's not scoring, trying to pass toother team mates- and not take the ball from them when they have it (although she admitted at dinner tonight that she has room for improvement there), and shorter, controlled kicks allowing her to keep the ball in bounds and score more goals. She is extremely fast for her age and when she decides to focus on that ball she WILL get her foot on it, not if ands or buts about it. I'm a proud parent thanking the other parents for their compliments on the natural talent they see in Kai as they watch her charge and cover the entire field, control the ball and score goals.
The end of our season was supposed to be on Halloween, however due to our 3 days of snow, the fields were covered in over a foot of snow (some had melted due to our warm Halloween weather). So yesterday, we played an afternoon game in which Kai modeled a very fashionable hair-do if I do say so myself ;). She scored one goal and although we lost, the team played well together and most importantly of all, had fun!

After, Coach Cushing gathered the girls together for an award time, thanking them for playing and that he hoped to see them back in the spring. (Kai may be changing leagues and they weren't real happy to hear that :( ) Each player received a certificate and a bag with the team's name "Blue Diamonds" on it. Very sweet. As Kaileigh was given her award, last but not least, she was described as the "Energizer Bunny who is all OVER the field". She thought this was hilarious and not only started bouncing like a bunny, but the entire team errupted into laughter. Always the entertainer- that's my girl!
Today we played a 9am game and man was it chilly! There was cloud cover and although later today proved to be beautiful, it was nippy at her game! We won our last game of the season 8-3, with Kaileigh scoring 3 of those goals. She was very excited and proud of herself and you could see it in her face each time. She was SO excited to play this game today! Ran out there completely focused, eyes on the ball, hustling down the field leaving the rest of the girls behind. Sometimes her kicks were still too hard and the ball went out of bounds, but she really is learning (and her coach says the grass has something to do with the ball going SO fast...). Everytime she stopped a ball, had a good kick, scored a goal, she just had this look on her face like "YES!!! WHOO HOO ME!!" It was pretty funny. She also cheers for all her teammates as well so I'm very proud of her behavior.
Now, I know I sound like a biased mom, but soccer, as she told me as we left our last game today, is "something I'll play the rest of my life mom! I just love it!!"
