This past weekend, while Kai was with her dad, Kelly & I took off for Kansas so he could hunt with his dad. Pheasant season opened up on Saturday so they were busy all weekend out in the fields. Friday we did spend time together at the shooting range and I shot a variety of their guns-- I'm really not very good- but OK I guess for someone who does this twice a year if that.
Friday night we had dinner with one of Kelly's best friends, Frank & his wife Natalie. We enjoyed their company over authentic Mexican (read: greasy!) cuisine :) It was a great evening of catching up, stories-- and plans for where the birds would be. They had just been in out before Halloween visiting us so it was fun to see them again so soon.
I was teasing Kelly that it's a good thing we don't rely on his findings to get us through the winter! They were only able to shoot 4 birds-- it would be one LONG, LEAN winter! :) They had a great day with the weather on Saturday, and Sunday was rainy and cold so they gave up (plus we had a storm to drive through to get home-- dang weather interrupting our plans!). Since it's been so wet there, the farmers haven't been able to cut their crops yet giving the birds plenty of places to hide. Oh well. They had a great time together and that's what counts!
I was able to visit with his mom and step mom. We went through wedding photos and talked about whatever came to mind. I love the lack of stress I have when I'm back there. It's just relaxing. No traffic, no deadlines, my phone barely works.... ahhhh....
Today is Tuesday, and I completely screwed up the dates of my friend Courtney's visit. Unfortunately they came Thursday and were here through the weekend while I was in Kansas. However, she didn't forget to call me- and we just were able to see each other for about an hour by my office! Her little girl is so cute and it was SO nice of her family to make time to meet me!!

You never know what life will bring you (or where!) but the blessings of the people who come and go in your life are so special! I feel so blessed to know so many wonderful people!!
Don't forget to reach out to someone you haven't talked to in a long time, share some pictures, catch up, ask about their family members and reminisce old times! It will take you back, make you feel all warm inside and help you gain the best possible experiences from your life!!
