1 tent, 1 dog, 1 cool Mom, 2 7 -yr olds & 3 days

What do you get when you get 1 tent, 1 dog, 1 cool Mom, 2 7 yr olds & 3 days?
FUN in Rocky Mountain National Park!

Kai and Chloe finished school on 6/22 and 6/23 we took off for the outdoors and nature. After Kai read her poem titled "Nature" at her class's coffee house the last day, what better way to celebrate the closing of her 1st grade chapter?

Chloe and Kai became very close in Mrs. Johnson's class this year and her super cool mom let me take her along for our girls only camping trip! We packed up Piper (my Honda Pilot) with the girls, our stuff, Honey (our dog) and the tent/sleeping bag/'smores etc that we needed. I have never heard so much giggling in my entire life! I can't believe those girls didn't have bruises on their bellies from laughing so hard!

As we checked into our campsite, we were met with an activities list, all free, and hosted by park rangers. The girls could even earn a Junior Rangers badge! So, what's this cool, jobless mom to do? Take advantage of a free education! We learned about trout, beavers, forest fire fighters (Hot Shots), and predators and their prey. We encoutered many elk, a mule deer, a coyote, many birds, some fish....and the morning we were leaving we discovered a bear had wandered through our campsite and left his "evidence" between our car and tent. I can't tell you how relieved I am we didn't find that the 1st morning! I'm not sure I'd have slept so sound the 2nd night!

Not only were the girls fabulous, but we discovered Honey is a great camping dog. Unlike Willie, she wanted to play in the creek, relaxed at the campsite, slept fabulous (in my sleeping bag withe me!) in the tent at night and love rolling in the dirt.

This is a trip I look forward to doing again!
