1st Grade marked a year of independence....
Independence of the mind-- reading quickly changed from simple stories to chapter books with real plots (and very little pictures!).
Independence of her creativity- writing her own stories and drawing pictures to go along.

Indpendence of friendships- as many girlies are finding their "cliques" and "BFF's", when asked who her best friend is, Kaileigh can't fill in the line. She simply says that she has too many great friends and wouldn't want to hurt anyone's feelings.
Independence of boys- chasing them at recess was a topic at the end of pretty much every day. One boy went from being her "boyfriend" to her "arch enemy" (followed by a growl...) Really?? Already? *sigh*
Independence in general- not the same "I can do it myself" attitude as we experienced in toddler-hood, but of going to her room, putting in a CD, doing her homework/writing a song/ taking care of her hermit crab/ dressing her dolls.... it's really nice to know she can do so much on her own.....yet on the flip side can be as absent minded and flighty as her Mama! ;)
I loved reading the stories Kai would write, the comment she'd put in her journal and the memories she's documenting as she travels along her journey in childhood. This year marks the end of attendance at Redstone. Next year, we venture on to a brand new school- a charter school teaching the core knowledge curriculum- Sky View Academy. No more glitter and pink to school- it will be daily uniforms. Some friendly faces and many new ones will fill the halls of this brand new school. And as we start off a long summer break (one whole month more than her current classmates) we look forward to new memories that will be created as Kaileigh enters 2nd grade!
Thank you to Katrina Johnson and all of the Redstone Staff in making this such a great year! It was an honor to be involved in events and the classroom throughout the year and I wish you all the best of luck in your next year as well!
