The Big Game

Ok, there are many "big games", but the one I'm speaking of here is the game Kelly has looked forward to for months. Living in Denver, and NEVER having been a Bronco fan- he's actually the opposite of a fan- he couldn't wait for her beloved Steelers to come to town. They came a few years back and we didn't go- big mistake! So, this year we were SURE to get tickets ahead of time.

And let me tell you- prices are ASTRONOMICAL! So-- we are thankful that through our friend Kelly we found affordable tickets so we could go. This guy actually sold them to us for face value! Very fair.

I had been a little concerned for:

a. weather- justifiable I believe considering how it keeps flipping from snow -> 70s and back!
b. not really being able to see...was it worth it?

Well, I now believe our friend Mike who told me there is not bad seat at Invesco Field.

Were we WAY up there on the 5th level? Yes

Were we able to see each catch of the ball clearly? No Could we see each great play made by the Steelers? Yes

We were there to join in the fun? Yes

From the parachuters before the game to the honoring of our military at 1/2 time, to the last seconds, it was fun!

So- it was worth it! They won in the 4th quarter after what started out to be a close game that seemed to be able to go either way. 28-10 was the final score!!

One of the best parts of the game for us was the amount of Steeler fans at the game. There truly is a Steeler Nation! I would bet that close to 1/2 (if not actually 1/2) of the fans were in yellow & black not orange & blue! Terrible Towels were swirling all around, chants were being sung, you couldn't guess if you weren't watching who had made a great play or a bad play because the cheering was about the same. Although we did have some obnoxious Bronco fans in front of us, we had TONS of Steeler fans around us too- next to us, the ENTIRE row behind us and everywhere else we looked.

Now, some people say this is "wrong" however- it's America people- melting pot galore! People love teams from ALL over and we're not all from Denver! (not that I'm from Pittsburgh either, but come on- I've moved so much what does it matter?)

Probably my favorite part of the experience was when we were decending from our high perch in the stadium. TONS of Bronco fans started walking out with about 6 1/2 minutes left in the 4th so there was lots of black & yellow left. We all walked out together decending the escalator and ramps chanting, singing, cheering, high fiving-- our friend Kelly figured wearing Steelers gear must be an open invitation to get touched, slapped etc. We had TONS of friends that night! :) "I've got a feelin'... the Steelers are going to the Super Bowl", "We are the champions" and anything else you can cheer-- it was all heard loud and clear! And it didn't stop once you got outside! Once we got out, we rallied up with other fans, saw a coach (don't know his name) and Santonio Holmes signing autographs (no we didn't get one and it was dark so my picture's not great--or even good really) and waved and cheered as they loaded onto the buses and took off for their hotel of choice for the evening.

What a fun experience!

Although---- I would NEVER bring Kai to a Broncos game. OMG there was not only "foul language" being yelled, but WORN on people's shirts, posters... geesh... not kid friendly at all in my opinion! So, that does put a damper on things, but that night-- was fun :)

We'll just continue to enjoy the Steelers from our own living room the rest of the season as we cheer them on to their 7th Super Bowl win!

GO STEELERS!

I'm glad you had a great time. Chris was over at a neighbors (and Steelers fan) watching the game and came home very disappointed!!! But I hear the Broncos are doing very well. Believe me, Steelers fans around here are CRAZY! We're not that far from PA
